We've been waiting a long time to get this latest episode in the bag. It comes from one of Germany's finest electronic exports, a mainstay in our ever-expanding record collections and one of the most forward thinking selectors we have had the pleasure of witnessing. Absolutely made up to welcome ROMAN FLÜGEL to the series.
Whether it be his undeniably suave craftsmanship behind the decks, the consistent quality of releases that have frequented any self-respecting music enthusiasts collection (check his latest album if you don't believe us!) or his ability to pick out sonic oddities through his own co-founded imprints Playhouse, Klang and Ongaku, Roman has continually cemented himself as an underground hero to one and all.
This mix is a true reflection of his intelligence and class in selecting music to take you on a proper journey through the motions. We can't really find a fault throughout this episode, it really is sublime. You can judge that for yourselves though. One of the finest out there who is certainly at the top of his game.
After a short break sailing the Balearic bliss of Croatia we are back with our next podcast instalment. This time introducing one of the true stalwarts in the underground music universe. We are super happy to welcome a cosmic genius in the form of Bill Brewster.
Co-author of the seminal book ‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Life’, and a true industry ‘head’, Bill has contributed to just about every aspect of the dance music scene since the late eighties. Once head of the legendary DMC brand, and one of the biggest vinyl junkies known to man, Bill has one of the finest ears for music in the Milky Way and has bridged the gap between the US and UK dance scenes over the last 30 something years. A true gentleman and a literary and musical scholar, we cannot express how much of an honour it is to have him on our podcast selection.
So, as you can probably expect from all the blurb, this mix is about as eclectic as you can get..sit down, lock in and vibe out!

One of the figures behind acclaimed party series Butter Side Up, Hamish Cole has over the last few years been nurturing the electronic music scene in his Leeds home and, more recently, further afield thanks to his role in founding KMAH Radio. As someone who has worked quietly and passionately to promote electronic music, he has developed a deep musical knowledge that’s reflected in his DJ sets and online mixes. He has kindly recorded a mix and answered a few questions for us about Leeds, Butter Side Up, KMAH and more.

We have been waiting for this little gem to drop into our inbox for quite some time and it has most definitely slapped a big warm smile on our faces at BSU HQ in this most bleak of winter seasons!
Berlin based Johannes Paluka AKA Iron Curtis has provided us with an infectiously hypnotic blend of lo-fi, soulful house and quintessentially deep techno with which he has become renowned for in both his exquisite productions and DJ sets alike. Having had a string of superb releases over the last few years on Morris Audio, Mirau and Retreat to name but a few, Iron Curtis has effortlessly blurred the musical boundaries between Detroit, Chicago and his own Hamburg origins to craft a unique blend of sonic deepness.
One of our favourite producers without a shadow of a doubt, it is an absolute pleasure to have him on the podcast vibes! This mix is truly a joy to the ear; super tight, super deep and undeniably charming. Iron Curtis keeping it classy!

It’s been a while since we’ve had some prime listening material to share with you all so we thought we best get back in to the swing of things for 2017.
For our next episode we’ve invited along one of our bestest pals in the form of Dog Eat Dog co-founder Toby Nicholas. We’ve known Toby for many, many moons and his selection is always of an impeccable standard as he consistently keeps his ear firmly to the ground for those treasured gems, both old and new. This is why he’s always on the money taking care of bookings at one of our fave haunts in London, The Pickle Factory.
This particular mix was recorded live on his home turf warming up for past BSU guest Sonja Moonear towards the end of last year.
Guiding you through the summer heatwave is a real electronic mastermind. A stone-cold underground hero and regular fixture throughout our ever growing wax collections...introducing Freerotation stalwart and all round tip top talent, TOM ELLIS.
Tom has been knocking out jazz-infused house cuts and off-kilter techy wobblers for the last decade or so with his hardware heavy sound bubbling away beneath the mainstream. An out an out producer at heart, Tom has been cutting his teeth with the Freerotation family over the last few years whilst popping up every so often with releases on some of our most beloved labels, such as Logistics and it's baby sister Telegraph and more recently his own imprint Modo Di.
This particular episode is all about Ellis' musical talent through and through. No fucking about, straight up heat from the top. Enjoy!
The Butter Side Up Djs warm up for Marcel Dettmann recorded live from Resident Advisor's Alternative Cuts party at Wire on Thursday 23rd April 2017. Part 2 coming soon...

Bringing the heat for our next episode in the podcast series we have a true Chicago house institution. A firm favourite in the Windy City for well over 15 years and one of the most intricate and intelligent selectors we have had the pleasure of hearing, we welcome Andres Ordanez AKA Specter.
Specter has been plying his trade since the hay days of the loft parties and warehouse raves in the late 80s and early 90s, he has become an enigmatic driving force in showcasing the sounds of the infamous Chicago scene. What you will find within this little gem of a mix is an intoxicating blend of the finest house cuts, all intertwined in a neatly crafted package of pure funk driven electronic music. This mix has excited us ever since we got our grubby little paws on it so sit back, relax and enjoy!

Fresh gear incoming from our UK contingent over in Berlin. Christian & Sam have been chipping away with some really slick beats over the last couple of years and now we’ve got a couple of hours of heat for you to get immersed in. Unreleased stuff from friends far and wide as well as some nifty little numbers thrown in the mixer for good measure. Real nice!
JG Wilkes from Optimo has kindly given us a mix to wet your whistles for their appearance with us this weekend. This mix is all vinyl and an hour of raw, deep & rugged house music. This mix showcases what you can expect to hear in the late hazy hours of an Optimo set. Raise your glassed for JG Wilkes!
We’ve managed to source a lovely little treat for your ears with this episode as we welcome Boiler Room & Principals very own supreme selector TASKER.
This guy has been making all sorts of waves since way back in 2009; obviously Boiler Room has REALLY kicked off across the globe giving Nic a serious platform to explore some real sonic rarities in the music sphere. His own venture, Principals, alongside fellow Boiler Room affiliates Bradley Zero and Drakeford has been purveying all sorts of niceness since it’s inception in 2012 bringing some real choice cuts to the forefront or London’s underground as the trio focus on the music rather than the big name bookings. Whities is something that you all need to get your lugs around as well, a sister label of Young Turks, Tasker has been handed the reigns to craft his own imprint with a serious ear for electronic goodness. Big things coming for this dude!
Nic is certainly a busy boy as he holds down a weekly residency, 88 Transition, on NTS Radio with his ever-expanding eclectic selections getting him some serious attention over the years! One of our favourite shows NO DOUBT. This mix is a perfect reflection of Nic’s widespread musical taste as he guides you through a hazy blend of 80s fuelled synth heat, straight into the more current house and techno bubblers that never fail to galvanise and hypnotise. Enjoy the ride!
